Why we start with Venison Meal
What are Novel Proteins?
Novel proteins refer to a more unique protein, meaning they are not commonly used in most pet food diets. Novel proteins generally do not include the more common varieties typically found in pet food such as Chicken and Beef.
Novel proteins often refer to varieties such as Venison, Duck, Rabbit and Bison.
Lucy Pet Foods™ makes a variety of formulas with novel proteins. Along with our new Venison Meal & Sweet Potato Formula, we have created another novel protein food for dogs, our Rabbit Formula Dog Food Rolls. These semi-moist, meaty Rabbit Formula Dog Food Rolls can be chopped, sliced and grated. Perfect as a full feed or add them to any of our dry dog formulas. Lucy Pet® Rabbit Formula Dog Food Rolls are perfect for training, travel, or as a healthy dog treat.

Why Choose Novel Proteins?
When pet parents observe an issue or change in our pet’s health, it can be frustrating and difficult to identify the cause. A visit to your veterinarian is always recommended for serious issues. However often times, a change in protein may resolve the issue in just a few weeks. Always ensure you first eliminate all other treats, snacks and no human food or table scraps! Then, introduce the novel protein diet gradually to a full transition over 5-10 days. Once your dog is fully transitioned to the new diet, you may see improvements in as soon as two weeks.
Food Sensitivities:
Over time, a dog’s immune system can develop sensitivities to common proteins such as chicken or beef. Transitioning to a novel protein can help address reactions your dog may experience, such as chronic skin problems, hot spots or digestive upset.
Sensitive Stomachs:
Novel proteins tend to be more easily digestible and kinder to the gastrointestinal system primarily because the immune system has not been previously exposed to them, making them a great choice for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
Limited-Ingredient Diets:
Novel protein diets are frequently paired with a limited set of carbohydrates to form a limited-ingredient diet. This approach is commonly recommended for dogs with sensitivities by simplifying the ingredient list, making it easier to eliminate potential triggers.
A New Delicious Meal for Picky Eaters:
Novel protein sources can make food more enticing for dogs dealing with food boredom.
It’s important to remember to schedule annual vet check-ups and consult with your vet for any serious health condition.
