What Makes Lucy Pet® The Best Dog Food For Active Dogs?

Real Ingredients You Can Trust

First and foremost, Lucy Pet’s® Tactical Fuel™ dog food for active dogs is made with real ingredients sourced from the USA and trusted global partners. In addition, it contains no artificial preservatives and no ingredients from China.

Second, Lucy Pet® uses only premium ingredients like real chicken meat and complex carbohydrates such as brown rice and oatmeal to provide a clean-burning source of fuel for your active dog.

Why High-Quality Protein Matters for Working Dogs

Why are these ingredients so important?

Just like their human counterparts competing in professional sports like basketball, football, and baseball, working dogs require protein to build, repair, and maintain muscle mass. Protein supplies the essential amino acids needed to support hair, skin, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and even hormone production.

That’s why we include premium chicken in our Tactical Fuel® formula. Not only is it one of the most biologically available protein sources, but it is also highly palatable for active dogs.

Sustained Energy from Complex Carbohydrates

In addition to high-quality protein, working dogs require healthy complex carbohydrates for sustained performance. Brown rice and oatmeal release nutrients gradually into the bloodstream. As a result, your dog experiences steady energy levels without sudden spikes or crashes.

This steady release is especially important because many working dogs have long, demanding days that require consistent endurance and stamina.

Digestive & Immune System Support

Finally, Tactical Fuel® dog food is formulated with digestive health in mind. After all, even the best proteins and carbohydrates won’t matter if your dog is experiencing digestive discomfort.

Moreover, research shows that a healthy digestive system plays a significant role in supporting the immune system. Therefore, by promoting gut health, Tactical Fuel® helps your active, working companion stay strong and perform at their best for years to come.

Feeding Guidelines When Choosing A High-Energy Dog Food

When transitioning to Lucy Pet’s high-energy dog food, following a few basic guidelines is important.

How to Transition to Lucy Pet Tactical Fuel®

First and foremost, the key to switching foods is to do it gradually so your dog’s digestive system can properly adapt to our formula and nutrients. To begin, replace 20–25% of your current dog food with Lucy Pet® Formulas for Life®. Then, gradually increase the amount of new dog food while decreasing the amount of the former food each day until your pet is eating only the new diet.

If your pet tends to have a sensitive stomach, you may need to extend the transition period. In that case, allow up to 10–14 days to fully transition to Lucy Pet’s Formulas for Life®.

In some instances, a pet may experience soft stools during the first week when switching to any new food. Fortunately, Lucy Pet® Formulas for Life® digest easily, and most pets transition smoothly. However, if your pet’s stool becomes loose, it may be necessary to transition even more gradually to the new diet.

Additionally, be sure to temporarily eliminate any treats or wet food for the first few days and follow feeding guidelines closely. Keep in mind, Lucy Pet diets may require different feeding quantities than the food you were previously feeding.

How to Determine Feeding Portions

To determine the proper portion size, utilize the feeding guideline chart below to reference the total recommended cups per day. Next, divide the total cups per day by the number of times you feed your dog daily to calculate the portion size for each meal.

In addition, be sure that a bowl of fresh water is always available to your dog, as water is an essential nutrient. Finally, always allow your pet to eat in peace so they can relax and fully enjoy their food.

Important Feeding Notes

Please note, these are guidelines only. Therefore, adjust amounts as needed to maintain your dog in ideal body condition. Additionally, feeding requirements may vary depending on breed, metabolism, and activity level.

Dividing Daily Portions

If necessary, the total recommended daily amount may be divided into more than one feeding per day. For example, many active dogs benefit from being fed twice daily to help maintain consistent energy levels. In addition, splitting meals can support steady digestion and nutrient absorption throughout the day. As a result, your dog may experience more balanced stamina and overall comfort.

Feeding Guide: (12+ months old up to 70lbs, and 18+ months over 70lbs)
Adult Weight in pounds Daily Feeding Amount in standard 8 oz cups
10 lbs 3/4
20 lbs 1 1/3 cups
30 lbs 1 1/4 cups
40 lbs 2 1/4 cups
60 lbs 3 cups
80 lbs 3 3/4 cups
100 lbs 4/ 13 cups
120 lbs 5 1/3 cups

Dogs over 120 lbs: Add 1/3 cup per additional 10 lbs. of body weight.

*Based on a standard 8-oz dry measuring cup

Utilize the feeding guideline chart for reference only; however, feeding amounts may vary by breed, age, or activity level.

When transitioning to our higher-fiber diet, initially, some noticeable changes in stool volume may occur. As your pet’s digestive system gradually adapts, you may also observe increased stool bulk. In most cases, this is a normal and expected response to higher fiber intake; therefore, with continued feeding, it typically stabilizes over time. Consequently, this natural adjustment reflects a healthier digestive tract and improved overall digestive balance.

To further support this natural adjustment process, we recommend gradually introducing the new food over a 5-day period. By transitioning slowly, you allow your dog’s system to adapt more comfortably and effectively. Additionally, be sure that a bowl of fresh water is always available to your dog, since proper hydration plays an important role in fiber digestion and overall well-being.
